So why has bowling made the biggest come-back since the 50’s and 60’s? While nobody may know for sure, maybe it’s recent popularity is a result of these few particulars.
The demographic has shifted a bit to the younger crowd with new venues such as Lucky Strike®, which provides a Martini lounge setting and full dinner menu. This relaxed environment is inviting to those who may have been intimidated at regular AMF and Brunswick facilities. Also gaining popularity are those newer facilities that have the birthday party theme, complete with video arcades and mountains of pizza. Now parents can get the kids and their friends out of the house for those birthday bowling parties.
The drastic changes in the equipment may also be a contributing factor. The average bowling ball in the past, made of very hard rubber, left all hooking technique up to the bowler and how they released the ball. Today, bowling ball manufacturers such as Storm, Hammer, Roto Grip and others produce reactive balls that have a weighted core which, depending on drilling, can give even a novice bowler a bit of flare.
Bowling is making its way into the next decade with more momentum than ever, so get out there and give it a try if you never have before. And if you’ve bowled years ago and would like to get back into it, the timing has never been better.
